3 Little-known tricks for an all day glow
Wouldn’t being a Victoria’s Secret Model just be the best? Nah, not for the body, I’m talking for the skin. They’re always glowing, cheekbones are cut, and contour is ace! JEALOUS!!
The thing is, that doesn’t come naturally but it can be achieved easily and I’m going to show you how.
As a beauty influencer, it is my job to discover the best techniques, along with the products to work with so you can glow from the moment you wake to your 3am taxi home, and everything in between.
In the lead up to Farmers Beauty Week 2017, I’ve teamed up with them to show you 3 little-known tricks for an all-day glow…
A boost of moisture:
You knew a skincare tip was going to come up, didn’t you? I’m BIG on skincare, as a little work every night means less time getting ready in the morning ‘cause you’re already looking pretty good.
Top tip: Moisturiser is your friend even when it’s really hot, but more often than not, one moisturiser just won’t cut it. Use a mix of serums and masks to boost that hydration hit.
What we want here is moisture, because bouncy, soft skin really does shine through. Below are a few easy products that I recommend for an instant brightening and moisture boost…
1 – Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-day system with pure vitamin C: New on the market, this pack is perfect in the lead up to big events because it gives your face a vitamin C hit (minus the literal citrus fruits to the jaw) using vitamin C powder that mixes with anti-aging serum as you pump it.
2 – Shiseido White Lucent MicroTargeting Spot Corrector: Shiseido is seriously underrated in NZ, but it’s up there with my favourite skincare brands and definitely deserves a place here. I was part of the NZ trial team when the White Lucent range hit town, so am delighted new lines have been added. This one is perfect before your moisturiser, and helps reduce sun spots and discolouration.
3 – Elizabeth Arden Superstart Skin Renewal Booster: A cult classic and one for every age, Superstart repairs your skin and makes it oh so ready for the next step. If you’re looking for a product that will make your skin look and feel naturally beautiful over the course of time, investing in this product is it.
4 – Estee Lauder Revitalising Supreme+ Global Anti-Aging Wake Up Balm: This bad-boy is the perfect kick-start for glowing morning skin, and a great booster alongside your daily moisturiser and sunscreen. If my skin is looking a little dull (post big weekend), I’ll also use this at night.
5 – Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream: A great makeup bag addition to get your skin looking clean and clear before applying foundation, Clinique has always been a staple in my beauty cabinet and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. CC creams are great on their own too.
6 – L’Oreal Paris Pure Clay Mask: Another new one to the market, and a ‘once a week’ mask. I like to do at least 2 masks a week, but this one is great to get the week off to a great start. Every Sunday night, apply a bit and leave it on to purify and mattify your skin.
The perfect base:
Fresh skin sometimes needs a bit of help, and that’s totally okay. There’s nothing wrong with foundation and concealer in the warmer months, you just need to ensure you’re using the right products for your skin and applying them properly.
Top tip: Here are my tricks for applying the perfect base…
– You don’t want to go completely matte, but you also don’t want your makeup sliding off, so use a primer but no more than a pea-sized amount each time.
– BB cream is your friend on days you don’t feel like wearing much, use a powder to finish off your look and set it for the day.
– Let your concealer bake for 2 minutes before blending it in.
– Have two sets of brushes and wash them every week (okay, two weeks).
And here are some of my Farmers faves…
1 – Australis Match Maker Shade Adjusting Drops: Available in lightening and darkening, these drops allow you to create the perfect shade of foundation without forking out for a whole new bottle of your fave. They’re also fantastic when it comes to expert contouring (it can’t just be me that finds contour sticks WAY too dark for my skintone, right?)
2 – Estee Lauder The Mattifier Primer: The perfect primer if you get a little on the oily side (yes, there is a difference between glowing and being oily). I use this primer for my t-zone, and then…
3 – Elizabeth Arden Flawless Start Primer: I use this primer for my cheeks and neck. It’s super lightweight but gives your skin the perfect base for applying your foundation. It’s fantastic for filling in the cracks too, so love this around my smiling lines (yip, the price to pay for being happy).
4 – Garnier BB Cream: I always go to this pocket-rocket when it comes to BB cream. It’s affordable, hydrating, and doesn’t make me break out ever. I’m a BB cream girl in the weekend, and find that a good mix of primer, BB then lightweight powder gives me good coverage all day long.
5 – Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation: I’m all about liquid foundation for an even coverage, and this one is just right for on-the-go application and touch ups (no, I’m not one of those car makeup appliers, but I’ve got full respect for those that are). This all-in-one foundation is dreamy, creamy and compact as.
Why blush is your friend:
I’ve found that in the last couple of years blush hasn’t been prominent on the beauty scene, but oh boy is it there. Gone are the days of bright pink cheeks, and instead it’s all about illuminating in all the right places.
Top tip: I apply my blush on the apple of my cheeks and blend to under my eyes, as this helps to disguise dark circles under eyes and creates depth. Then get an illuminator and swipe a little down your cheekbones.
Here are some of the products I’m using as my blush and illuminator (they go hand in hand)…
1 – Yves Saint Laurent Healthy Glow Powder Blush in The Street and I: My favourite blush for the warmer months, this striking peach is perfect for sweeping over your cheeks quickly and easily. Buildable coverage and of course multi-use as eyeshadow.
2 – L’Oreal Paris True Match Highlight: This highlight is great for a subtle sweep over your nose and decolletage and ideal for touch ups from day to night. It comes with a beautiful compact brush and mirror, so keep it in your handbag.
3 – Bourjois Sculpt Light Illuminator: This liquid strobing product is where your insane cheekbones are going to shine. Use this puppy with a brush to ensure even coverage and you’ll be glowing brighter than Prince in the 70’s.
4 – Natio Face & Eye Palette in Illuminate: Squeeee! I love this beautiful multi-use palette. With your choice of matte or pearl finish blush, it’s an easy one to have in your makeup bag and mix up depending on your mood.
5 – Nude By Nature Touch of Glow Highlight Stick in Rose: Think illuminator with a touch of rose gold charm. This product is beautiful on your cheeks but also works really well on your eyes.
It’s coming up to Farmers Beauty Week (March 13th – 19th) so now armed with these tips, head in store or shop online and ask a Farmers assistant to colour-match and help you decide on the perfect range of products for YOU! A lot of the assistants are beauty junkies too, and they always help me pick the right products based off my needs.
Thanks to Farmers for teaming up with me for this post, and for bringing us Beauty Week. Our wallets and makeup bags are very happy with you.
